"Lent is like springtime. It's a time to grow in God's love. We pray and do good deeds."

We continue to color in "hearts of kindness" when we are caught doing a good deed. I hope that you are encouraging your child to record good deeds done at home.

We have Stations of the Cross booklets which we are using to follow Jesus's journey to Calvary.

We'll attend 8:00 Mass on Friday with our buddies. Your child can leave his/her backpack in the gym and meet us in church. Please join us if you can.

We'll discuss what adventures an animal might have and focus on sequence as we read One Little Mouse. We'll work on consonant blends . When some consonant sounds are together they each say their own sound: eg. ck, fl, pl, and sl; HF Words: one, two, three, four, and five. I hope you are reading for the Read Aloud.

We'll finish up our chapter on Number Patterns: counting by 2's, 5's, 10's, and odd/even numbers. Our next chapter will be Money and Time. Our buddies will guide us in a variety of activities as we estimate weight, volume, area, and capacity on "Estimation Day".

In honor of St. Patrick we'll enjoy some healthy "green" snacks. We'll count and graph rainbow Skittles.

Fourth grade is sponsoring a Tag Day. Wear green on St. Patrick's Day! Cost: $2.00

The Season of Lent
Matthew 6:1-6,16-8

The children will be able to understand the meaning of Lent. They will try to plant the seeds of God's love in their hearts by prayers and good actions. A sheet will be sent home on Ash Wednesday for them to record their good actions during the next forty days. We will follow up in the classroom as well. We will receive ashes on Wednesday at the 9:00 Mass. You are welcome to join us.

We'll read My Lucky Day, an animal fantasy, with focus on cause/effect, Ll /l/, verbs, HF Words: are, that, do, and the -e.g. Word Family: beg, keg, leg, peg.

We'll work on ordinal numbers and do some problem solving activities with a number line.

There will be several more experiments as we note the properties of air, including that it takes up space and has weight. Our buddies will work with us as we see what objects our breath can blow away. They will also tell us how they use numbers every day. You are also welcome to come in and speak to the class about the importance of numbers in things that you do daily.
